Weathersfield launches veterans banner program

WEATHERSFIELD — Township trustees have launched the annual Veterans Banner Program, a special initiative designed to recognize and pay tribute to veterans or those who are now serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Trustee Ed Whittaker said the program will allow up to 48 personalized banners to be displayed on the light poles throughout township park from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year.

Each banner will feature the name, photograph and military branch of a local veteran or active-duty service member.

After the banners are taken down in the fall, they will be presented to the veteran, their family or their sponsor as a keepsake.

“This program is a powerful way for our community to show gratitude and honor the service and sacrifices of our veterans. We invite families and sponsors to participate and celebrate the legacy of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms,” Whittaker said.

Orders will be taken though March 21 or until all 48 spots are filled. Banner applications will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis with payment.

Cost is $100, payable by cash, check or money order. Payments must be made in person at the Weathersfield Township Administrative Building, 1451 Prospect St., Mineral Ridge, during business hours.

Whittaker said once payment is received, applicants will receive instructions on how to submit veteran details to Cole Creative Design for custom banner creation. He said requests for specific banner locations will not be accepted.

Whittaker said the program serves as a visible reminder of the sacrifices made by hometown heroes and offers families a unique way to honor their loved ones.

Other communities, including Niles and Campbell, also offer the banner program.

Starting at $2.99/week.
