Warrant issued for man accused in vehicular assault
Staff report
WARREN — City police are searching for a Warren man wanted for violent domestic disputes, including an alleged felonious and vehicular assault.
A warrant for second-degree felonious assault has been issued by Warren Municipal Court Judge Patty Knepp for Jamar Hill, 43, of 728 Hoyt St.
According to a Warren Police report, officers were first dispatched at 1:41 a.m. Wednesday after a 911 call reported multiple gunshots in the 700 block of Hoyt Street SW. The caller, a 23-year-old Warren woman, told police she was the victim of an attempted felonious assault by her boyfriend. Officers later recovered three .40 caliber shell casings at the scene.
Earlier in the day, officers attempted to contact the woman’s boyfriend, Hill, without success. Just after midnight, they went to his residence to request that he move his vehicle from her driveway.
Upon arrival at her home, the woman honked her horn to get his attention, which allegedly led to him firing multiple shots, some into the air and others toward her vehicle, according to the report.
The victim provided police with video footage of the incident, which reportedly shows “the silhouette of a male on the front porch.”
The report describes two audible gunshots and notes that officers heard the victim say, “do it again,” or something similar. The report also states that after this exchange, the suspect fired a shot. As the woman drove away, another gunshot was heard. Officers inspected her vehicle, but found no bullet holes.
Later that morning, about 6:08 a.m., police were dispatched again — this time to Highland Avenue SW — where the same woman reported that Hill shattered her car window. She told dispatch that after fleeing the scene, the suspect followed her in a gray Chevrolet Impala, the police report states.
Moments later, at 6:19 a.m., the woman called police again, stating that Hill had rammed the back of her vehicle at the intersection of Fourth Street SW and Main Avenue SW, pushing her car into the grass. The impact disabled Hill’s vehicle, allowing her to escape, the report states.
Responding officers located the abandoned Impala at the intersection. The car was severely damaged with its front bumper torn off. The woman later told officers that although the vehicle was registered to her, Hill has a set of keys, enabling him to drive it.
She provided police with a video recording of part of the incident, which was attached to the report. Because of the video’s poor quality, the suspect’s face was not clearly visible, but officers noted they were familiar with him from prior incidents, the report states.
