Niles parks seek Hometown Heroes

NILES — The city of Niles and its Parks and Recreation Department are seeking applicants for its Hometown Heroes Banner Program.

Approximately 120 spots for banners are available. The fee is $130 per banner, and the first 120 fully paid and completed applications received will be placed in 2025, according to the program guidelines.

The deadline to submit a completed application form, along with payment and a high-resolution photo of the veteran or active service member, is Feb. 28, 2025.

Applications can be picked up at the Niles Wellness Center.

This is the fifth year of the Hometown Hero Banner Program. The program honors local military personnel and veterans by displaying banners on light posts throughout the city.

Each banner honors one veteran or a person currently serving in the military. The banners measure 30 inches by 60 inches and are double-sided. They include a picture of the service member, their name, branch of service, and the name of the banner sponsor.

The banners will be displayed from Memorial Day through Veterans Day in 2025. After Veterans Day, sponsors can pick up their banners at the Wellness Center.

Starting at $2.99/week.
