WHAT: Township trustees meeting Saturday

PRESENT: Pete Augusta, Doreen Lutz and Joh Nemet

Trustees:

• Named Augusta as chairman and Nemet as vice chairman.

• Approved Nemet as representative to the Newton Falls Joint Fire District board.

• Increased zoning inspector pay from $750 to $800 per month.

• Retained attorney Cherry Poteet as legal counsel for township.

• Are having the sheriff’s department check on several bright lights at a business that affects drivers heading north on South Canal Street due to lights turned to the road. Augusta has said residents have contacted trustees when they can’t see the road because of the many bright lights. Augusta said trustees are concerned there will be an accident or someone may get hit by a vehicle because of the lights or when it is raining because the lights will make it even more difficult to see.

• Approved a 2.5% pay increase for road department workers Mike Hall, who also is cemetery sexton, and Brandon Ferguson and Dan Smith. They also received a $150 boot allowance.

• Are in talks with the sheriff’s office on a new contract for police protection in the township. Officials had to wait until new sheriff Mike Wilson took office last week.

• Approved Niles Foundations to pour cemetery foundations at 90 cents per square inch.

• Set meetings for 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month.
