Maplewood superintendent to retire effective July 31

MECCA — The Maplewood Board of Education has accepted the retirement resignation of Superintendent Perry Nicholas, who has served in the district for the past 19 years.

Nicholas will retire effective July 31.

Before coming to Maplewood schools, he previously served as an administrator with LaBrae schools. Nicholas has more than 35 years in the education field.

The board also at their organizational meeting Wednesday gave the final reading to place a 3.5-mill, 10-year renewal emergency levy on the May primary ballot.

Treasurer Merry Smith said the levy will generate $508,000 with no increase in taxes.
