Firearm, drug charges net man prison term
WARREN– A 24-year-old Warren man, who previously served an 11-month prison term for a gun charge in 2023, was sentenced Thursday to 10 to 13.5 years in prison on multiple felony charges in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Dionte Catron pleaded guilty in November 2024 to charges in three felony cases, including first-degree possession of cocaine, two counts of second-degree possession of fentanyl-related compounds, two counts of fifth-degree possession of cocaine, failure to comply with a police officer’s order, tampering with evidence, two counts of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, and having a weapon while under disability.
As part of a plea agreement, an additional aggravated possession of drugs charge was dismissed. The offenses occurred between June 2023 and February 2024, with investigations led by Warren police and an April 12, 2024, incident involving Niles police.
Judge Sean O’Brien imposed consecutive sentences, citing Catron’s criminal history and the need to protect public safety. In addition to the prison term, Catron received $25,000 in fines and a three-year driver’s license suspension.
Assistant prosecutors Diane Barber and Michael Burnett represented the state in the cases.
