Councilman calls for tenant meeting at troubled complex

Fire at Stonegate Place prompts complaints from the residents

WARREN — In response to ongoing concerns about living conditions and a recent fire at Stonegate Place Apartments, Warren City Councilman Todd Johnson, I-1st Ward, is taking action.

Johnson has formally requested collaboration among city departments and Community Legal Aid to pursue receivership of the property. The goal is to force the sale of the complex to a responsible owner who will make the necessary investments to restore the apartments to safe, livable conditions.

“The current conditions at Stonegate Place are unacceptable,” said Johnson, whose ward includes the complex. “I’m committed to the fight for a permanent resolution to this situation and safe housing for all residents. We are exploring every available legal option to ensure the well-being of the tenants.”

Johnson is also inviting Stonegate Place Apartments tenants to join him and Community Legal Aid for a meeting to discuss tenants’ rights and explore new legal approaches.

The meeting will take place 5:30 p.m.Thursday at the Warren Family Mission, 155 Tod Ave NW. Transportation to the meeting is available through Second Baptist Church by calling 330-393-0802.

The meeting aims to provide tenants with information about their rights and the legal process, as well as to gather input from residents on the challenges they face.

Starting at $2.99/week.
