Charges dropped against Rally’s shooting suspect

WARREN — A grand jury has chosen not to indict a Warren woman accused of shooting another woman outside a downtown fast food restaurant, according to a grand jury report released Tuesday.

Elexis Craig, 35, of Weir Road NE, previously pleaded not guilty to a second-degree charge of felonious assault in Warren Municipal Court after surrendering to police June 5 after a warrant was issued. She was released on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond, which was continued July 24 when her case was bound over to the grand jury.

The grand jury’s decision comes after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the May 24 incident in the parking lot of Rally’s on South Street. Video footage provided by witnesses shows a confrontation escalating violently before shots were fired.

In the footage, a physical altercation is seen as one woman approaches a white SUV, with Craig inside.

The confrontation quickly escalates, and Craig, pushed into a set of bushes in front of the eatery, is seen firing at least one shot, seemingly into the other woman’s stomach area. The victim was identified as 39-year-old Candice S. Strickling.

As a result of the grand jury’s decision, the charges against Craig have been dropped.

Starting at $2.99/week.
