WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Steve Gerberry, Edward Whittaker and Richard Harkins

Trustees:

•   Approved having Cherry Poteet, township law director, to file an amicus curiae brief on behalf of the township in the appeal of AWMS Water Solutions LLC vs. Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management with the Ohio Supreme Court. Trustees said the matter is to protect the residents from the dangers of earthquakes induced by the AWMS injection well. Whittaker said the matter is an “ongoing saga” for a decade.

•   Approved applying for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency to purchase new fire turnout gear and self-containing breathing apparatus at $74,018. Officials said the grant request is for $70,493 with a local match of $3,524.

•   Approved Ken Boring as fire chief and as a full-time non-collective bargaining employee to the same pay raise adjustment with his pay at $19,024.

•   Approved Cherry Poteet as township legal counsel effective Jan. 1 at $3,850 per month.

•   Reappointed William Henning to the zoning commission and Chuck Colburn to the zoning appeals board, both for five-year terms effective Jan. 1 at $25 per meeting.

•   Approved appointing Township Administrator David Rouan and police Chief Mike Naples to the volunteer firefighter dependent’s fund board in addition to fire Chief Thomas Lambert and fire Capt. Rayond Knepper, who were both elected to the board.

•   Will seek grants from the Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District for the scrap tire grant and the “Go Green” community grant for shredding events and trash containers for parks and cemetery.

•   Set the organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14.
