Parole hearing set in ’85 murder case

WARREN — A parole hearing is scheduled in December for a Trumbull County inmate serving a life sentence for the 1983 murders of his mother and brother.

Van Gentry Fickes, 60, is incarcerated at North Central Correctional Institution in Marion. The hearing next month will mark his fourth since 2010.

Fickes was convicted July 15, 1985, of fatally shooting his mother, Christine Fickes, and brother, Ronald Fickes, at their home on West Market Street in Warren. The killings occurred while Fickes was on probation for attempted breaking and entering and under indictment for another breaking and entering charge.

The victims were shot in their heads with a shotgun.
