One hurt in city shooting

WARREN — Police are investigating a shooting on Hamilton Street SW that left one man injured and multiple homes struck by gunfire.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched around 3:27 p.m. Wednesday to 2438 Hamilton St. SW after receiving reports of a gunshot victim.

Police found a man in the living room with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. A bullet traveled through the home’s exterior and interior walls, striking a television before hitting the victim, the report states.

The shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim’s stepson and another man, the report states.

According to the stepson, the dispute was allegedly over a female acquaintance that escalated when the suspect drove past the residence in a Ford Fusion, the report states.

The vehicle, reportedly driven by a woman, turned around and shots were fired at the home, the report states. Officers recovered 27 shell casings.

Two other people at the home, the victim’s wife and stepson, were unharmed.

The stepson told police another man was there at the time and had displayed a handgun outside just before shots were fired, the report states. The man left before officers arrived.

The gunfire also struck two nearby homes, including a vacant property at 2452 Hamilton St. SW.

A neighbor reported a bullet lodged in the brick facade of their home and was provided an incident report number by officers.

Police said they have identified a potential shooter, but further details are being withheld pending additional evidence and interviews.

Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.
