On the record: Newton Falls

WHAT: Village council meeting Wednesday.

PRESENT: Julie Stimpert, Brenda Persino, Brian Axiotis, Kevin Rufener, Patricia Benetis and Mayor Davd Hanson.

Council:

• Presented a proclamation thanking and recognizing all the volunteers who cleaned, renovated and painted the skate park, which had graffiti on it.

• Announced Christmas in the Falls will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 30 with a parade, Santa Claus and other holiday activities.

• Announced an opening for a resident from the village to serve on the Newton Falls Joint Fire District board starting in 2025 and also an opening on the treasury investment board. Officials said the NFJFD has a village council member and township trustee and residents from both communities serving on the board.

• Approved purchasing 80 electric meters from Brownstone Electric Supply in New Jersey to replace old meters and those that have gone bad at $21,216.

• Entered into an agreement with Hilscher-Clarke Electric for tree trimming of electric department circuits at $21,079.

• Approved paying Pollard Land Services $26,359 to complete the Scott Street sanitary sewer project that included an additional property to extend sewer service at 2294 Riverside Drive.

• Heard from Axiotis about concerns from residents of homeless people in the village. He said residents can let officials know.
