Liberty traffic stop results in arrest

LIBERTY — A routine traffic stop at a gas station resulted in the arrest Monday of a Youngstown woman with several warrants in two cities.

Jessica Vinion, 45, of Youngstown, was booked into the Trumbull County jail for allegedly violating her probation stemming from a narcotic equipment charge in Niles and another probation violation for a fifth-degree possession of drugs charge and narcotic equipment, also out of Niles. Vinion was additionally charged with resisting arrest.

According to the incident report, a Liberty police officer was patrolling the area between Belmont Avenue and Gypsy Lane when he saw a black Hyundai with temporary plates that expired Nov. 2 at the Fast Trac gas station.

When driving through the gas station’s parking lot, the officer recognized Vinion standing near the car’s trunk area, as he had arrested her previously for possessing narcotic equipment and narcotics.

He made contact with the driver and Vinion, who was holding a ball python and became “extremely nervous,” with hands shaking as she attempted to light a cigarette, the report states.

After the officer received information from dispatch about Vinion’s charges, he noticed her right hand on the car door’s handle, as if she were about to exit without his permission.

According to the report, Vinion said she was not under arrest when he ordered her to turn around to be cuffed.

Because of her active warrants, the officer placed his knee into her lower back to restrict her movement, according to the report. Another officer assisted.

Vinion was logged as a prisoner resisting arrest.
