Man convicted in child’s 2003 murder denied parole

WARREN — A Trumbull County inmate serving a life sentence for the 2003 murder of 4-year-old Logan Gyton has been denied parole until July 2031, according to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority.

Michael James Ledger, 62, remains incarcerated at Lake Erie Correctional Institution. Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins expressed approval of the parole board’s decision, stating, “Our office is satisfied that the parole board saw fit to continue Ledger’s incarceration.”

Ledger was convicted by the late Judge John Stuard for the murder, which occurred while Logan lived with Ledger and his 6-year-old half-brother at a Warren residence. During a police interview on Jan. 18, 2003, Ledger admitted being “too rough” with Logan after officers found large drywall holes, suggesting the child had been thrown against the wall. Logan died from skull fractures on Jan. 20, 2003.

Assistant Prosecutor Charles Morrow opposed Ledger’s release in an August 2024 letter, citing his failure to complete essential programs like anger management. Morrow also noted three recent infractions, stating Ledger had not demonstrated the behavior expected for parole.
