Cortland man dies in six-car crash
BAZETTA — A Cortland man was killed and two other people injured in a six-vehicle crash on state Route 5 in Bazetta.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post is investigating the Thursday afternoon crash.
A news release from the patrol states a 2021 Audi A7 driven by Anthony Marble-Salem, 18, of Cortland, was traveling south on Route 5 and as he approached stopped traffic at a red light at state Route 305, struck a 2015 Ford Escape driven by Nicholas Stoian, 38, of Cortland, in the rear.
The report states the impact of the Audi pushed the Escape into a 2012 Mazda 3, which was pushed underneath a 1998 Saturn SL2.
The Saturn came to a final rest on top of the Mazda 3 after striking the rear of a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country, which then struck the rear of a 2017 Nissan Murano.
The release states Stoian was transported by the Bazetta Fire Department to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Another motorist, Sherry Williams of Cortland, was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital by the Cortland Fire Department with non-life-threatening injuries. Paul Williams of Ravenna was transported to St. Joseph by the Champion Fire Department with minor injuries.
The patrol stated distracted driving is believed to be a contributing factor.
