OSP seizes 106 pounds of pot

NORTH JACKSON — A traffic stop for speeding in Jackson Township turned from bad to worse Tuesday morning for the driver of a truck with California plates after the Ohio State Highway Patrol found 106 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle.

The 2017 Toyota Tundra was pulled over at 10:03 a.m. for speeding on the Ohio Turnpike, but while interacting with the driver and a passenger, troopers could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to Sgt. Ray Santiago. The two inside the vehicle also gave conflicting stories regarding their trip.

This caused the troopers to conduct a probable cause search of the truck, which revealed 106 pounds of suspected illegal marijuana, which was seized by the troopers. The substance will be sent to the patrol’s crime lab for analysis.

The case is under investigation and charges are pending. Santiago said the suspect is facing potential charges of bulk possession of marijuana and drug trafficking.
