Murder defendant consents to moving trial to January
WARREN — A man accused of killing a 32-year-old woman, and leaving her body abandoned in a wooded area on the southwest side of Warren, has waived his right to a speedy trial.
This moves a previously scheduled Monday trial to the first of next year.
Antuan Parker, 44, of Oak Street SW, Warren, appeared with attorney Jeff Goodman on Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to sign a waiver of 120 days. State law allows a defendant to be tried within 90 days after his arrest. The action moved his trial to Jan. 9, 2023.
Parker will next appear Dec. 5 for pretrial hearing before visiting Judge Gary Yost. Goodman told his client the trial probably will be held before a new judge.
The defendant last week told Yost he was rejecting a plea deal that would have him admit to simple murder charges and other felonies connected to the death of Desirae Boss. Accepting the offer would have given Parker a life prison term with the first chance at parole in 18 years.
Now Parker faces charges of aggravated murder with gun specifications, abuse of a corpse, two counts of tampering with evidence, two counts of aggravated arson and two counts of having weapons while under disability. Assistant Prosecutor Chuck Morrow said if found guilty of all charges by a jury, the sentence for Parker could go as high as 46 years to life in prison.
Parker was arrested Nov. 17, 2021, on a warrant connected to the killing of Boss, whose body was found Oct. 2, 2021, after she was reported missing a week earlier. The body was discovered in an area off Choctaw Street and Pershing Avenue SW. The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office said the Transylvania Avenue woman died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Parker was arrested while driving a white GMC Acadia that was stopped by police officers near the corner of Pine Avenue and Burton Street SE, a report states.
According to reports, detectives linked Parker to the slaying after they were investigating an aggravated arson case at Parker’s Oak Street SW home on Oct. 4.
Boss was the subject of a social media search by her family, who had reported her missing since Sept. 25, 2021. She was last seen that day at the Family Dollar store on West Market Street. On Oct. 2, 2021, a caller to Trumbull County 911 reported finding a female body — which had first been identified as a child — lying down with shoes that appeared to be thrown next to her. The hair was braided, the report states, and she was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and pink socks.
Parker remains in Trumbull County jail pending the posting of a $1 million bond. The indictment states Parker was accused of the slaying that occurred about Sept. 27. Goodman has said the case against his client consists of “sketchy evidence.”
