Man, 20, arrested as gun found after crash

WARREN — An Oak Circle SW man was arrested on OVI and a gun charge after police officers were called Wednesday morning to investigate a vehicle crash in the 200 block of Atlantic Street NW.

A witness told officers that after a 2017 Chevrolet crashed on Atlantic Street, the driver got out of the vehicle and ran around the car toward a tree stump in a yard and set something down. The man admitted to the witness that he had placed a handgun there, the report states.

While paramedics were tending to the driver, an officer found the firearm with a loaded magazine. In searching the vehicle, officers found an open container of alcohol on the passenger floor board.

The driver, identified as Dominic Pinto, who was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment, was later arrested on charges of OVI and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, the report states.

Pinto, 20, was arraigned in Warren Municipal Court on Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a personal bond. His next court hearing will be Oct. 17, according to records.
