Vienna trustees OK tax abatement

VIENNA — Township trustees at a special meeting Tuesday approved a 15-year, 70 percent tax break for Berk Enterprises Inc. of Warren, which is planning to construct a $9.7 million warehouse off Ridge Road.

Trustee Chairman Phil Pegg said the trustees voted 3-0 on the request. In addition to Vienna trustees, Mathews Board of Education and Trumbull Career-Technical Center Board of Education also have given their approvals for the abatement request. Trumbull County commissioners also need to sign off on the request.

Pegg said the township and Mathews schools will benefit from the business’ property tax. This is the first tax abatement Vienna has had since 2008 for Delphi.

Last fall, Robert Berk, president of Berk Enterprises, said the company plans to consolidate its headquarters and warehouse operation near Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. The Western Reserve Port Authority agreed to sell the 36 acres to Berk Enterprises for $295,000.

A ground breaking is planned in early October.

Berk Enterprises Inc. distributes products to the food service and amusement industries.
