WHAT: Board of education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Jennifer Nicholas, Beth Harris, Angela Campana, Mark Harper, Danielle Scherer and Superintendent Velina Jo Taylor

The board:

• Hired Christopher Romano as a business education teacher for the 2022-23 school year. Because financial literacy became a required course for Ohio schools, business education will be taught to all senior students, according to Lakeview High School Principal Larry Herrholtz;

• Accepted the resignations of Cynthia Olson, cook; Rhonda Fike, bus driver; and junior high cheerleading adviser Bailee Yale;

• Hired Kathleen Pavlansky as junior high track and cross country coach; Maggie Shackleford as seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball coach; Frank Newton Jr., as varsity assistant basketball coach; Anthony Augustine as varsity boys assistant soccer coach; Miranda Vitale as seventh- and eighth-grade cheerleading adviser and Elisabeth Miller as an as-needed English as a second language teacher;

• Hired 26 part-time athletic department workers on an as-needed basis for the 2022-23 school year;

• Approved the following substitutes: 13 teaching aides, one maintenance worker, nine secretaries, seven library aides, seven cafeteria aides, five at-school nurses, 15 cooks, nine bus drivers and 23 custodians;

• Amended the contract for Erin Rich from elementary principal secretary to elementary secretary for the 2022-23 school year;

• Named Scherer as the delegate to the Ohio School Board Association Capital Conference on Nov. 13-15 in Columbus. Campana was named the alternate.
