WHAT: Township trustee meeting Aug. 1

PRESENT: Doug Emerine, Rex Fee and Bill Templeton


• Held a second round of interviews for the police chief position. Emerine said trustees are expected to select a new chief at the Aug. 16 meeting. Candidates are Dan Wasko, Larry Skaggs, Kevin Miller and Mike Stabile. Wasko has been serving as the township’s acting police chief since the retirement of Chief Jeff White, who left June 30. Emerine said trustees are working on a compensation package to offer the next chief;

• Heard from resident Jason Kish, who asked about creating a safer way for people on bikes to get to the bike path because they must cross state Route 305. He suggested having a route from the school property or by the cemetery both off state Route 45 to get to the nearby trail;

• Plan to meet with the local soccer league to discuss plans for the former Champion Central School property off Route 45, which is owned by the township and used by various sports groups. Emerine said officials will discuss using American Recovery Plan funds for improvements and development of the property. He said officials want to see what they can afford to do. Officials also are looking at developing property by the cemetery where engineering surveying work has been done;

• Hired Amarisa Minor as a new full-time firefighter / paramedic, filling a retirement opening;

• Approved increasing the cemetery appropriation budget for machinery and equipment by $5,859 to pay DoCut $10,859 for a Toro mower;

• Announced residents can sign up for a better gas aggregation rate and program with Trumbull County. Trustees approved enrolling three Dominion Energy gas accounts with the county.
