Loychik bests Law in primary

Incumbent gathers 71% of vote among Republicans

WARREN — Incumbent 63rd District Rep. Mike Loychik was the top vote getter in the Repub-lican 65th House District race in Tuesday’s primary election in both Trumbull and Ashtabula counties, defeating challenger Randy Law, a former 63rd Ohio House district state representative.

Unofficial results from Trumbull County had Loychik receiving 71 percent of the vote and Law 29 percent. Similar results were in Ashtabula County, as unofficial results there had Loychik receiving 71 percent of the vote and Law 29 percent.

Loychik currently represents the 63rd District. Because of the state redistricting earlier this year. He is seeking election this year to the newly designated 65th District.

Loychik, 33, of Bazetta, served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and is owner of Atlantic Pressure Washing Solutions LLC. Loychik did not return several phone calls seeking comment.

Loychik could face a challenge by Jennifer Donnelly, who filed her paperwork with the Trumbull County Board of Elections to run as an independent in the general election. Donnelly of Cortland, a pet health insurance claims adjuster and political newcomer, still has to have her petition certified.

Loychik has focused as a state representative on infrastructure revitalization, workforce development, broadband expansion and help for mental health issues, including the opioid epidemic, as well as bringing more state funding to help with water infrastructure.

Law, 61, of Warren, is a retired former business broker and also does business consulting. He said he wanted to thank all the voters and supporters who worked hard on his campaign. He said while he was disappointed he did not win, he feels he worked.

“In the end, it was the voters who decided. We put up a good effort this election.” Law said.

He said the delay in the race due to the redistricting made it challenging for all candidates.

Law represented the 63rd District for one term from 2005-2006. He said he ran a grassroots campaign with his supporters and himself going door to door talking to residents about their concerns for the state’s legislative agenda.
