Dog owner heads to court in attack case

WARREN — A Warren dog owner, Jody Moore, 58, is expected in Warren Municipal Court Aug. 24 to face charges of having a vicious dog.

His dog bit a 75-year-old woman July 28, according to a police report. The incident took place on Reeves Road NE.

Moore said he had his dog on a leash as he was bringing the dog from around a fenced area in the backyard as the woman was walking down the street.

According to the owner, the injured woman goes around the neighborhood petting dogs, and asked to pet his dog, to which he agreed — but after licking the woman’s hand, the dog began biting her.

She attempted to break free but was unsuccessful. A neighbor driving by was able to beep his horn, which caused the dog to stop attacking and Moore returned the dog to the fenced area, the police report states.

When police arrived, they observed blood on the grass. The owner notified police that the dog is up to date on all its shots.

The woman disputed the owner’s claim that she requested to pet the dog, stating that Moore invited her onto the property to see the dog before the attack occurred. She had injuries to the head, neck and her right arm and was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

The report was forwarded to the dog warden, and Moore was advised to quarantine the dog for the night, the report states.
