Badger names new school board member

KINSMAN — The Joseph Badger Board of Education has named former board member Laisa Thompson to fill an opening on the board, with the resignation of longtime board member Eltha Logan, who stepped down July 31.

Superintendent Edwin Baldwin said Thompson, who had served as a board member from 2018 through 2021, was selected from four applicants who sought the seat.

Thompson, a Joseph Badger graduate, will serve through December 2023 and, if she chooses, can seek a new term by running in the November 2023 general election.

The board made the selection at a special meeting on Monday.

Baldwin said Logan had served as a board member from 2004 to July 2022 including as board president. Logan graduated from Joseph Badger schools and was a high school biology teacher in the district and teachers’ union leader.

He said Logan stepped down for personal reasons after spending her entire career in the school district.
