WHAT: Board of education meetings May 17 and June 15

PRESENT: Cheryl Kistler, Jackie Woodward, William Catlin, Tracie Allen and Niki Reid

The board:

• Heard from Superintendent Greg Bonamase that work is near completion on the new playground equipment installation at the elementary school with a dedication to be held before the new school year. He said work also will be done this summer on the two science labs and classrooms at the high school;

• Approved an agreement for the 2022-23 school year with the Nutrition Group, which has been with the district the past two years. Bonamase said the company plans the menu for breakfast and lunch and manages the cafeteria;

• Approved a change to the rental facilities agreement that the school facilities may be rented during the school year from Sept. 1 to May 31, with no rentals in the summer months;

• Recognized Kyle Saner on his retirement effective June 30 after 42 years with the district. Saner has been with the maintenance / grounds department since February 1980;

• Accepted a $2,000 donation from Clean Energy Future for high school scholarships;

• Approved Kathy Gambill as part-time help in the treasurer’s office with hours not to exceed 20 per week;

• Approved Heather Starcher as superintendent secretary on a five-year contract to June 2027;

• Approved staff professional development days for Sept. 27, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 with no school for students;

• Approved use of the high school for the annual Prep Bowl tournaments on Jan. 23, Feb. 11, Feb. 25 and March 18, 2023;

• Approved an agreement with the Lordstown Apple Cider Festival Committee with the festival to be held on school grounds Sept. 23 to 25.
