Mesopotamia man accused of kidnapping

Woman, 24, says she was tied to ceiling and whipped

NEWTON FALLS — A Mesopotamia man was arrested Saturday after a 24-year-old Orwell woman accused him of holding her against her will and giving her up to 30 lashes on her legs and back.

Nathan Lee Haynes, 48, of state Route 534, is expected to be in Newton Falls Municipal Court to answer to charges of kidnapping and domestic violence, a Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office report states.

The woman told deputies about 4 p.m. Saturday a man held her against her will for about 30 minutes Wednesday. The woman claimed the man tied her hands to the ceiling of the Mesopotamia home and struck her 20 times across her back with a leather strap and 10 times on her leg with a garden hose.

The report states deputies identified bruises on her legs and back. Authorities photographed the injuries for evidence.

While authorities were taking the report, the accused showed up in the driveway in a 2013 Buick Regal. When questioned about the marks on the woman, the man told a deputy it was from a sexual encounter. He told the officer “she had wanted him to do it,” the police report states.

A search of the Buick netted a loaded handgun in the driver-side door pocket.

Haynes was taken to Trumbull County jail, where he was being held until today’s scheduled court appearance.
