WHAT: MetroParks meetings June 9 and 23

PRESENT: John Brown, Nicolette Darkangelo, Steve Maas, Kathy DiCristofaro and Kurt Sauer

The board:

• Heard from Executive Director Zachary Svette that MS Consultants of Youngstown will do needed survey work for the Leavittsburg dam removal project at $7,450. Svette said when all preliminary work is completed, the park district will go out for design build consultants for the project. He said the Leavittsburg dam will likely be removed in 2024.Officials said the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency also will review documentation for the project;

• Announced a fishing derby will be 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Saturday at Canoe City in conjunction with Mahoning River Adventures with educational programs on river fishing;

• Heard from Svette of programs in July with the volunteer naturalists of Mahoning County. One program on birding will be at Foster Park and the other on tree identification at the Howland park office site.
