Teen boy shot at River Run apartment

WARREN — City police are investigating the shooting of a teen boy at the River Run Apartment complex about 11 p.m. Saturday.

A call to 911 dispatchers said the victim was not breathing and possibly was shot in the head. A report from a relative of the 15-year-old posted to First Ward Warren Councilman Todd Johnson’s social media site Monday afternoon stated the victim has not died and “please continue to pray for him.”

The victim, identified as Jermain Croff in a police report, was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center by friends driving a private vehicle. Croff then was transported by air to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Officials have not released a condition report.

The caller reported the victim was a family member and the shooting occurred after a break-in at the apartment. A second caller to 911 reported seeing two dark-colored trucks pull out of a lot in the 3100 block of Lodwick Drive NW about the same time.

Officers set up a crime scene around an apartment, the 911 report states.

The shooting continues a trend of reports involving gunplay in the city since May 13, when 19-year-old Kammie Linn Kiser of Garrettsville was killed and two others were wounded at the Warren Heights Apartment complex. Also shot were DaVonte McElroy, 17, and Travon Allen, 18, both of Warren.

On May 16, three people were shot in a drive-by on Packard Street NW.

Police also are investigating a report of one or more people shooting multiple times into a house at 384 Oak Knoll SE during the early morning hours of May 15.

Another shooting on the afternoon of May 20 near the corner of Atlantic Street and Olive Street NE severely wounded a 23-year-old woman who reportedly was driving a vehicle.

City officials did not say if any of the shootings were connected, and no arrests have been made in any of these incidents.
