WHAT: Board of Education organizational meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Cheryl Kistler, William Catlin, Tracie Allen, Niki Reid and Jackie Woodard

The board:

• Named Kistler president and Woodard vice president;

• Set meetings for 6 p.m. the second Wednesday each month at the high school;

• Swore in new member Allen;

• Heard from Superintendent Greg Bonamase a drone league will be forming with schools where students will learn to fly drones. The district will work with Trumbull County Educational Service Center for training of staff. Teachers will be Michael Witt and Holly DeBernardo;

• Accepted a $500 donation from Clean Energy Futures for the athletic department;

• Accepted the resignation of Aaron Smalley as career-based instruction teacher at the high school, coach and athletic director. Bonamase said other staff will handle the athletic director work and a tutor / substitute will cover the classes;

• Heard from Bonamase the fire alarm project at high school is being completed. Plans are for breaking ground in the spring for new playground at elementary school.
