WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Julie Altawil, Susan Brucoli, Brian Burkey, Denise Delida, Ken Jones, Treasurer Samantha Pochedly and Superintendent Kevin Spicher

The board:

• Approved a two-year limited contract for Valerie Harper as a three-hour cook / cashier, effective Nov. 1;

• Approved the following one-year limited contracts: Carla Meehan, monitor at Howland Glen; Carmel Schehl, monitor at Howland Glen; Robin Matela, monitor at Howland Springs; and Lyda Vigorito, educational assistant at the middle school;

• Accepted the retirements of Doug Shallop, day custodian, and Myron Bronson, night custodian, both effective Dec. 31. Shallop has been employed by the district since 1995 and Bronson since 1979;

• Approved the following substitutes: Nichole Evans, educational assistant; Cheryl Iler, cook / cashier and monitor; Jessica Little, secretary, educational assistant, library assistant and monitor; Shannon Mercer, cook / cashier and monitor; Richelle Montler, educational assistant; Roxann Preston-Ali, secretary, library assistant; Carmel Schehl, secretary, educational assistant and library assistant; Lindy Snyder, secretary, educational assistant, cook / cashier and monitor; Carrie Trebus, secretary, educational assistant, cook / cashier and monitor; Janet Turner, educational assistant, library assistant, cook / cashier and monitor; and Tiffany Turner, Library assistant, cook / cashier, monitor and educational assistant;

• Approved disability leave for Sheila Zombar, educational assistant, from Sept. 1, 2021 through Aug. 21, 2024;

• Approved the following volunteers: David and Jeremy Siegfried as robotics advisers, Derik Lantz as middle school boys basketball coach, and Rob Holbert and Brad Gibson as assistant varsity wrestling coaches;

• Approved a resolution to employ substitute teachers, as needed, who do not hold post-secondary degrees for the 2021-22 school year, provided all other requirements to serve as substitute teachers in the Howland School District are satisfied;

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Public School Employees Local 034 that when a head cafeteria worker is required to assume the duties of Food Service Supervisor, the appointed head cafeteria worker will receive the difference between her or his current hourly rate of pay and the Food Supervisor current hourly rate in addition to their current salary;

• Approved activity budgets for Paws with a Cause and the High School Robotics Club;

• Accepted the following donations: $2,149 from the Howland PTO to purchase a new piano for music at Howland Springs; $100 in celebration of Jerry and Lina Amadei’s 50th wedding anniversary from Gwendolyn and Kevin Duckworth to the Middle School Library; $157 from anonymous, $100 each from Phunt Truong and Tuan Dang, Nichole Hazimihalis and David and Rosalynd Hoso, and $25 from Michael and Danielle Munno, all to the HM Serves Food Drive; $100 from Pizza Works to sponsor a student for the Lake to River Science Fair at YSU; $100 from Boy Scout Troop 101; $5,000 from Aptiv Foundation and $100 from Harbor Freight Tools for the High School Robotics Team; and $13.98 for sale of spirit ware from OhioPyle Prints, Inc.
