WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday
PRESENT: David Mahan, Patricia Fisher, Jim Scher, John Pitts and Kelly Boyle
The board:
• Heard from Assistant High School Principal Zac Barson the esports video gaming program has done well, with students competing at local events. The Flash Smash went 6-1 in the regular season and qualified for regionals. The board approved transferring $500 from the general fund to the esports fund. David Goldberg serves as the esports coach.
This is the first year esports have been an officially sanctioned high school sport. More than 400 high schools in Ohio have a team. Esports also can lead to scholarships as more and more colleges and universities start teams;
• Heard from Treasurer Laurena Rouan the district is fiscally sound for the next five years. She said ESSER funds have been used for additional help for nurses and substitutes;
• Approved the annual Camp Fitch field trip in North Springfield, Pa., for April 6 to 8 with a maximum of 30 sixth-grade middle school students. District personnel serve as chaperons.
