Man arrested when shots fired after dice game
WARREN — Police officers are investigating a report of shots fired and a possible two-vehicle accident Wednesday in the 1600 block of Larchmont Avenue NE.
One man, David Qualls, 50, of Williamsburg Street NW, was taken into custody. Court records show Qualls is charged with discharging firearms and consuming liquor in a motor vehicle. Jail records show Qualls remains incarcerated pending an arraignment Monday before municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak.
When officers arrived about 10:45 p.m., they observed a man standing in a driveway and another in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Both did not admit to having any firearms, and a search of the two did not produce any weapons, the report states.
There was no traffic accident, the report states.
An officer began to look through the vehicle and found a magazine clip sitting on the passenger seat. A further search netted an empty bottle of vodka and several open beer cans. After finding a bullet on one of the men, an officer then located an unloaded Springfield Hellcat 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat, the report states.
After further questioning of the two men plus another who had come onto the scene, it was learned that the three were drinking and playing a dice game when an argument started. One of the men then drew a firearm and the report states it accidentally went off. A second shot went into the ground when the argument continued.
The vehicle was impounded, and the firearm and two spent shell casings were presented into evidence.
