Warren helps businesses fund exterior improvements
Help to fund some exterior improvements
WARREN — The city will offer additional financial assistance to Warren businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A number of businesses have postponed making improvements to the exterior of their buildings because of decreased revenue. In response, the city has created an exterior improvement program that will grant up to $10,000 to business and commercial property owners to proceed with exterior upgrades to their properties.
Eligible improvements and upgrades include:
• Exterior cleaning
• Historical architectural elements
• Door and window replacement
Funds may not be used for roofs, HVAC units, basic maintenance and repair work, etc.
This program aims to improve the aesthetics and positively impact the marketability and perception of both the business and the city, a news release states.
Funding for the program is provided by Warren’s Community Development Department and will be administered by Warren Redevelopment and Planning Corporation. All applications will be reviewed and scored by members of the city’s design review committee.
Eligible applicants must own a commercial property or businesses located in Warren. Residential properties and / or home-based businesses do not qualify. All applicants must have the consent of the property owner to make proposed improvements.
Eligible costs include labor, design, materials and permit fees. Funds are disbursed upon submittal of invoice and / or appropriate documentation to WRAP. Costs incurred for alternations or improvements completed prior to receipt of formal written approval by the program’s review committee are not eligible for reimbursement.
Applicants are encouraged to promote historic preservation and accessibility standards in designing improvements. All improvements must conform to applicable city building codes; zoning ordinances; local, state and federal laws; and regulations and must be completed by July 15, 2022.
This is a competitive grant subject to funding availability and appropriateness as determined by the design review committee and the city of Warren.
