Storm damage in Johnston, Mecca

Severe weather and possible tornado sightings were reported after heavy thunderstorms hit the Mahoning Valley early Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a tornado warning for Trumbull and Mahoning counties just before 6 p.m. with warning sirens sounding in area communities.

A 911 spokesman said they received numerous calls and reports after 6:15 p.m. of trees and power lines down, mostly in the Mecca and Johnston area.

A report states damage to homes in the area of state Route 46 NE and Griffith Drive NE in Mecca. A roof was torn off a home at 2369 Griffith Drive.

A 911 spokesman said they did not have any confirmations of tornadoes as of late Thursday.
