WHAT: Board of Education meeting Oct. 19

PRESENT: Patricia Limperos, Regina Patterson, Jackie Shannon, John Fowley and Julian Walker

The board:

• Heard from John Lacy, director of business operations, that restoration work is proceeding on the former Harding building facade with plans to secure the banisters and make the porch look better. The $132,000 remediation project being done by Miller Yount includes replacing the porch and steps that have pulled away from the facade;

• Heard from Superintendent Steve Chiaro a new “Warren Sports Hall of Fame Heroes Corner” display has been set up at Harding High School;

• Heard from Chiaro that bids are being sought for the planned community wellness center to be located near the football stadium. The center would include an indoor track and exercise areas;

• Accepted retirements of Margaret Bake, a technician, Dec. 31; and Roseann Carnahan, secretary at the maintenance department, Dec. 31;

• Approved an agreement with Trumbull County Educational Service Center for services and personnel for the Trumbull Virtual Learning Academy at $55,500;

• Approved the high school FIRST Robotics team field trip Saturday and Sunday to Rochester Main Street Armory.
