WHAT: Trumbull Career and Technical Center Board of Education meeting Thursday

The board:

• Heard from Superintendent Jason Gray that the terms of board members Ronda Bonekovic of Brookfield, Linda Silvidi of Hubbard, Robert Faulkner of Warren, Dan Denman of Maplewood, Don Galbreath of Lakeview and Debra Davis of Newton Falls end Dec. 31. He will contact the school districts about appointing someone for 2022;

• Heard from facilities director Jerry Gorgie the cafeteria this year is serving free breakfasts and lunches to all students, using financial assistance from the state duirng the pandemic. Gorgie said the cafeteria has passed all health inspections. He said for the 2020-21 school year, of the 851 students, 282 were on free lunch and 43 on reduced lunch, which is 38.2 percent;

• Recognized board member Robert Faulkner of Warren for being honored at the Ohio School Board Association Northeast Region with the Friend of Public Education Award for his 30 years of service to OSBA;

• Hired Olivia Bindas as a math instructor at $12.25 per hour to work in the extra help lab;

• Hired Ruth Gosnell as a medical assisting instructor at $22 per hour and Christopher Eckenrode as a licensed practical nursing instructor at $28 per hour, both in the adult education program;

• Approved Skills USA students to attend the fall conference Nov. 4 and 5 in Columbus and animal science contest April 12 and 13 at the state fairgrounds in Columbus;

• Announced sophomore student Career Day visits will be Dec. 1 and 2. Eighth-grade visits are set Nov. 15 and March 7.
