WHAT: City council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Reynald Paolone, Lily Martuccio, Thomas Grumley, Keith Schubert, Mark Standohar, Jeff Kay, Sam Zirafi and Mayor James Melfi

ABSENT: John Moliterno


• Heard from resident Annette Minniti of Stambaugh Street thanking the city for catching two skunks in her neighborhood that helped get rid of a bad odor. A possum also was caught, but released. Minniti said a trapper also addressed a beehive issue;

• Heard from Melfi there has been discussion with the Trumbull county commissioners and Eastgate Regional Council of Governments about the Western Reserve Transit Authority of Youngstown being the future of transportation for the Mahoning Valley. He said many Girard residents use WRTA, which makes stops in the city;

• Heard from Melfi a well was put in Liberty Park as well as plans to install an irrigation system to help keep the soccer fields watered;

• Announced new Christmas decorations will be placed this holiday season in the city’s downtown to replace outdated ones;

• Heard from Service Director Jerry Lambert they are waiting to get streets paved this fall as local contractors are behind because of the amount of projects scheduled. Melfi said projects will be bid out sooner in 2022, but many companies who can’t get all the projects on their schedules because of time limitations should not submit bids;

• Will seek bids for professional marketing services for the city;

• Renewed the contract with the Trumbull County Combined Health District for various services.
