WHAT: Township trustee meeting Oct. 4 and special meeting Friday

PRESENT: Brian Bugos, Bill Templeton and Doug Emerine


• Met with representatives of the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association who will assist the township in doing a search for a new fire chief with the recent retirement of John Hickey. No cost was determined. Hickey retired Sept. 30 to become the new director of Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency;

• Discussed using American Rescue Plan funds for moving soccer fields from the former Central Elementary School property off state Route 45 to the 60-acre property owned by the township near the cemetery. Officials said they want to begin utilizing the property for recreational purposes;

• Will meet at 6 p.m. today with Southington trustees to discuss the mutual aid fire and paramedic service agreement Champion provides to Southington, which expires Dec. 31;

• Approved a lease agreement with the Champion Presbyterian Church for $19,978 for use of a section of their parking lot area, which is located next to the fire department;

• Set trick or treat 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30;

• Approved increasing cemetery rate fees for funerals held after 2 p.m. weekdays and on Saturdays with residents increasing from $100 to $200 and nonresidents from $200 to $400. Officials said they have received many requests for funerals on Saturdays and after 5 p.m.;

• Received a $3,237 grant from the Ohio Department of Professional Development / Licensing Real Estate Division for use at the township cemetery;

• Promoted road department worker Matthew Mines from truck driver 1 to truck driver 2 at a pay increase from $15.86 to $20.08 per hour.
