Eight cows killed in Greene crash

GREENE — The Ohio State Highway Patrol cited the driver of a semitrailer hauling livestock that flipped over Monday night on state Route 87, also known as Kinsman Road.

The patrol report states the semitrailer was hauling 38 cows and about 8 p.m. went off the road, crashed into a utility pole, landed in a ditch and overturned.

Eight cows died and were removed from the scene with backhoes, the report states.

Ohio Edison crews were called, and a portion on state Route 87 was closed at the fire station, the report states.

The driver, identified as Dennis Stoneman, 49, of Albion, Pa., was cited on a charge of failure to control.
