On the record – LaBrae

What: Board of Education meeting Monday

Present: Russell Sewell, Tim Gibson, Karen Ancell, Diane Duncan and Gary Morton

The board:

• Passed a resolution regarding flexibility for Class of 2022’s graduation requirements. Superintendent Anthony Calderone said because of changes that have been made during the coronavirus pandemic, such as interrupting end-of-year final exams and that testing guidelines for students to earn credit in a class may not always include an end-of-course test. He said other options are available to earn the total 21 units of academic credit for graduation such as using the students’ final course grade in lieu of a end-of-course exam;

• Approved contract with Trumbull County Educational Service Center at $10,860 for public relations and communication services;

• Approved the Hall of Fame bylaws with plans for an induction event for the 2020 and 2021 honorees on Dec. 17 at the high school. The annual event was not able to be held last year due to the pandemic;

• Approved policy on blended learning in the event the schools are forced to close. Calderone said the district is mask-optional;

• Approved Renee McManus as a substitute nurse at $20 per hour on an as needed basis;

• Issued supplemental contract to Bascom Principal Maggie Kowach as Title I coordinator.
