Man charged after fight with police

LIBERTY — A Girard man was charged with two counts of assault after a police report stated he became combative with Liberty officers during his arrest after an incident near Jimmy’s Restaurant on Belmont Avenue early Wednesday.

John Kloos, 24, of Rose Avenue, was arrested by police after a Trumbull County 911 report states 10 people were fighting in the parking lot of a bar in the 1600 block of Trumbull Avenue. Police chased a man to a place behind Jimmy’s Restaurant where there was another skirmish, with report stating the suspect tried to grab an officer’s Taser.

Kloos’ booking photo at the jail shows his nose cut and bruised.

Kloos’ bond was set at $15,000 and if he posts bond, he will face electronic monitored house arrest, the court record states. A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday in Girard Municipal Court.
