On the record – Lordstown
WHAT: Village council meeting Monday
PRESENT: Robert Bond, Terry Campbell, Lamar Liming, Ron Radtka, Don Reider, Howard Sheely and Mayor Arno Hill
Council:
• Approved Hill’s appointments of Scott Kovacic as full-time worker and David Smith as part-time worker for the board of public affairs;
• Heard from Hill of getting council committee meetings held more regularly — at least once per month — because they were cut back during the pandemic. He said this would benefit the department heads and the employees;
• Heard from Auditor William Blank that income tax collections are at $364,000, which is an increase from a year ago at this time due to more construction work being done using the 1 percent from everyone working in the village. Hill said the village needs the money because last year there was less income tax;
• Heard from fire Chief Travis Eastham they have been selling unneeded fire equipment and items on govdeals.com;
• Heard from Eastham officials are addressing a fire siren off Hallock Young Road that residents say has no tone and is believed to have been hit by lightning, according to Hudson Communications;
• Heard from parks / grounds superintendent Ron Hickox that oversize truckloads of equipment will be coming to and from the Ultium Cells property in coming weeks as work continues at the site;
• Announced the Apple Cider Festival will be Sept. 24 to 26 at the high school parking lot off Salt Springs Road.
