WHAT: Village council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Adam Zimmerman, John Baryak, Tesa Spletzer, Sandra Breymaier, Tarry Alberini and Mayor Ken Kline


— Passed a resolution recognizing resident Nicholas Holub and other volunteers from the Newton Falls cleanup group who have worked in the village and along the river this spring. Zimmerman said additional cleanups are planned;

— Passed a resolution urging state legislators to pass House Bills 135 and 153 to bring fairness to the application of prescription drug plans for those struggling to pay deductibles and out-of-pocket costs for medications. Zimmerman said resident Brenda Persino, who is battling health issues, was the one he spoke to of having council pass a resolution to help people get their needed medications;

— Heard from Alberini of the importance of regionalization for Newton Falls, Newton Township and Braceville Township focusing on economic development and growth for all the communities. He said there can be development along state Route 5;

— Heard from police Chief Gene Fixler that with council meetings returning to in-person based on guidelines of officials, those in the building are required to wear masks;

— Heard from Zimmerman of sidewalk improvements being looked at on Ridge Road and Elizabeth Street;

— Heard from Village Manager David Lynch the Washington Street storm sewer improvement project will be done in Ward 2 as part of an Ohio Public Works Commission project.
