Champion firefighters receive new equipment

CHAMPION — The township fire department now has 12 new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus made possible through a $89,400 FEMA / Assistance to Firefighters grant. The local 5 percent share for this grant was $4,470.

“The purchase of this vital equipment will continue to allow our personnel to have the most state-of-the-art protection when entering into hazardous conditions and atmospheres. We would like to thank Cory VanKanegan of Warren Fire Equipment / MES for making this purchase go very smoothly,” the department said.

With the awarding of this project, the township’s fire department has now secured more than $736,871.34 though the FEMA / AFG program since 2002. Local cost share amount for these grant awards has been $46,665.
