WHAT: Board of education meeting Feb. 22

PRESENT: Julie Altawil, Susan Brucoli, Brian Burkey, Denise Delida and Ken Jones

The board:

• Heard from Middle School Principal Steve Kovach who did a presentation about a program teaching staff is using so they can see what screen students are on in their class while using Chromebooks. Assistant Principal Jim Kosek talked about how the school has vaping detectors in some of the bathrooms at the middle school. Altawil said she believes the high school also has the vaping detectors. Also discussed was a program called Synergy that provides voluntary surveys to students and parents with the data to be used to create public service announcements about drug prevention;

• Received a $10,000 donation from the Cafaro Company for the Paw Pantry, which was given in honor of the boys soccer team winning the state finals;

• Approved Eric Olsen and Kelli Olesky as middle school afternoon supervisors at $462 each;

• Accepted the resignation of Michelle Dohar, special education supervisor, effective July 31;

• Approved an agreement with Eastern Gateway Community College for College Credit-Plus classes for high school students.
