Case numbers at Mahoning nursing homes drop

The number of COVID-19 cases at Mahoning County nursing homes and assisted-living facilities dropped this week from 33 to 29.

Staff cases dropped from 28 to 23, while patient cases rose from five to six. There were 29 total cases at 21 facilities this week, two fewer facilities with cases than last week.

Trumbull County facilities, meanwhile, have no cases, while in Columbiana County, one facility continues to have two patient cases and another continues to have one staff case, according to Ohio Department of Health data.

Across the state, staff cases dropped from 438 to 395, and patient cases dropped from 570 to 531.

COVID-19 nursing home deaths rose by three this week in Mahoning County — from 271 to 274. Death totals remained the same in Trumbull County (149) and Columbiana County (78).

Staff cases at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown dropped this week from eight to one, and inmate cases dropped from three to one.

The number of staff virus cases at the private Northeastern Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown remained at two, and the number of inmate cases remained at zero.

The number of staff cases at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg rose from one to three, and the number of inmate cases remained at zero.

Ohio’s prisons have 54 staff cases this week, down from 58 last week. Inmate cases across the state dropped from 49 to 34.
