Postal employee alerts woman about scam

WARREN — An alert postal employee stopped a possible scam Monday morning in which a woman could have lost $7,500.

A 76-year-old Elm Road woman told police she received a phone call from an unknown person who insisted the woman’s grandson was in trouble in Indiana and needed the cash. The woman was instructed to send the $7,500 to an Indianapolis address.

The woman went to the bank and then to the post office to mail the money. The report states a post office staff member became concerned about the amount and told the woman it may be a scam, advising her to call police.
