State tops 10K COVID-19 fatalities

More than 10,000 people in Ohio have died as a result of COVID-19.

The state surpassed that milestone in the numbers reported Friday by the Ohio Department of Heath.

The statewide total stands at 10,057 deaths with the addition of 67 fatalities. Three of those deaths were from the Mahoning Valley with two deaths reported in Trumbull County and one in Mahoning.

The dead in Ohio include 5,211 men and 4,823 women. While slightly more men have died statewide, more women than men have died of the coronavirus in this part of Ohio. Of the 299 dead in Trumbull County, 170 are women and 129 are men. In Mahoning County, 176 women have died compared to 159 men. And Columbiana has 68 female fatalities compared to 58 males.

Both Mahoning and Trumbull had more than 100 new cases reported Friday. Mahoning’s 137 new cases brought its total to 16,567. There have been 335 deaths, 825 people hospitalized and 13,953 patients presumed recovered.

Trumbull’s 131 new cases brought its total to 12,227. Its death total is 299 with 880 hospitalizations and 10,404 patients presumed recovered.

Columbiana only added 49 cases for a total of 6,971. Its death count stayed at 124 people with 433 hospitalizations and 5,837 patients presumed recovered.
