Rental, mortgage help is available

WARREN — Funds are still available for rental, mortgage and utility assistance for people that can demonstrate COVID-19 has caused a hardship.

The Trumbull Community Action Program in Warren is handling applications for the Home Relief Grant with funds from the CARES Act.

Community action agencies were granted $50 million for the program, and $20 million remains in the funds.

Assistance can be used for outstanding rent, mortgage, water and sewer bills going back to April 1. The program is slated to end Dec. 30.

After a successful application, TCAP will make direct payments on behalf of the applicant.

Applicants have to have a household income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, which is $52,400 annually for a family of four. Federal unemployment stipends will not be considered in determining the benefit.

More information and an application available for download is available at http://tcaphelps.org/menus/home-relief-grant.html. TCAP can be reached at 330-393-2507.

Applicants will need to provide household information, eviction / past due notices, supporting documentation and demonstrate the hardship is a result of the pandemic.
