On the record: Mathews

WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Michele Garman, Beth Haddle and Ken Wallace

ABSENT: Tarin Brown and James Pegg

The board:

• Heard from Superintendent Russell McQuaide he has been in contact with local contractors for updating the aging athletic stadium. He said he has to see if the project will need to be done in stages or as one large project. He said officials have to see if various parts of the project will need to be bid out. Officials have said bleachers at the stadium were donated from Warren G. Harding High School in the late 1960s and need replaced. Other parts of the stadium have become unsafe;

• Approved extending the current contract with the Mathews Teachers Association by one year to July 31, 2022 with the base salary to be increased by 1.5 percent for the 2021-22 school year with all other previsions of the current agreement to remain unchanged. The contract would have expired in July 2021;

• Approved CR Electric for stadium lighting work at $3,626;

• Passed a motion endorsing a fair school funding plan as being introduced by the Ohio Senate. Officials said if the funding formula is changed to be more fair to school districts, Mathews would receive $900,000.
